Ernest "Mac" McCullough Duvall's Obituary
Ernest McCullough Duvall (1947 – 2026)
Ernest “Mac” McCullough Duvall, a devoted husband, father, and friend, met his Lord and Savior on February 4th, at the age of 78. Mac was born on March 18, 1947, to William “Billy” Evans Duvall, Jr. and Billie Kirven Duvall, in Cheraw, South Carolina. Growing up in Cheraw, he worked as a lifeguard at Cheraw State Park and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Cheraw High School in 1965, and then from Clemson University in 1970. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing golf and also played the trumpet.
After moving to Texas in the late 70s to start his accounting practice, Mac married the love of his life, Debby, in 1980. They raised two wonderful children and instilled in them values of care for their neighbor, generosity of their time, and kindness to all. Mac’s accounting practice grew steadily, and he served his clients well for nearly fifty years, retiring this past fall only when his illness made it impossible to continue. A cradle Episcopalian, Mac spent over twenty years worshipping at Church of the Resurrection in Garland, followed by several years at Trinity Fellowship, before landing at Church of the Incarnation in Dallas. Over the years, he participated in Cursillo in the 80s, served on many vestries, and volunteered as an usher and chalice bearer. Mac was a reliable and trusted friend, maintaining countless friendships lasting five or six decades. He loved being outside, enjoying fishing, sailing, skiing, and hiking, and he also dearly loved the rain.
Mac was a man of great faith, immense kindness, and quiet generosity. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he shared, the love he demonstrated for Christ, and the many memories we will cherish forever. His kindness and good-natured humor were cherished by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Mac is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debby (Cunningham); daughter Adrianne (Duvall-Ingram) and her husband Darold Ingram, and son Evan and his partner Melissa Williams; his sister Ellen (Edwards); and many cherished nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William E. Duvall, Jr. and Billie Kirven Duvall; and his brother, William E. Duvall, III.
A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, TX on Friday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mac’s name to Blood Cancer United.
