Ernest Craig Turner's Obituary
Turner, Ernest Craig ~ Of Garland, previously of Amarillo, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia, passed away, unexpectedly, on February 16th, 2011. He was born August 21, 1959, in Dimmitt, Texas, son of Betty O’Dell and was also raised by his loving grandparents, Flora and Hurshel Gunn. He worked as an operations manager, project manager, and technical consultant throughout much of his life in the healthcare industry but always remained a Marine. He served from 1978 to 1985, receiving the following distinguished awards: Meritorious Unit Commendation, Meritorious Mast (six awards), certificate of Commendation, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Julie, a loving father to his children, Brandi Culwell (Nate),Kayla Turner (Kale), Russell Turner, and Sarah Turner. Surviving him also are his niece, Roxi, his grandchildren, Maelee, Maryn, and Lexi, and his great nieces, Kandyce and Baylyn whom he loved, dearly. His mother, grandparents, and son, David preceded him in death. He also leaves cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and many beloved life-long friends. Those who knew him will remember his infectious good cheer, positive energy, indomitable spirit, fierce determination, and loving nature. He was an active fisherman, hunter, and golfer who spent many hours cheering on the UT Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. He rode a horse better than John Wayne and almost drove as fast as Dale Earnhardt senior, who were two of his childhood heroes. His humor, kindness, and compassion will be remembered as his greatest gifts. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 22nd from 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Interment ceremony is Wednesday, February 23rd at 1:30 at the DFW National Cemetery 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX.
