Fernando Juan Gonzalez's Obituary
Fernando Gonzalez passed away on Friday February 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of courage, faith, hard work, and joy. Born in Holguin, Cuba, Fernando cherished memories of his happy childhood while growing up under the guidance of a strong, principled father who was a respected attorney, and a tender-hearted mother who was a published poet. From them, he learned honesty, faith, and compassion – values that shaped the course of his life.
At the age of 19, along with his sister, he fled the Castro regime in Cuba as part of Operation Peter Pan. This began a long and painful separation from his parents and brother, who remained in Cuba. Starting over in the United States brought great hardship, but he never lost his faith in God or his determination to succeed. After years of perseverance and numerous jobs in a multitude of industries, Fernando finally found his calling in radio sales and management, dedicating nearly 40 years to the industry.
Fernando was a man of deep faith who believed in honesty, generosity, and doing good without expecting anything in return. He loved salsa music, dancing, good food, spending time at his ranch, and working the land. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he answered simply: “Alegre. Disfrutando la vida. Bailando.” Joyful. Enjoying life. Dancing.
His greatest wish was to see Cuba free once more. Though that dream remains unfinished, he carried hope in his heart until his final days.
Fernando is preceded in death by his loving parents Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria De Los Angeles Fernandez de Gonzalez and his brother, Edmundo Gonzalez. He is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia, his children James (Holly) Peña, Elena (Jordan) Easson, his grandchildren Madelyn Peña, Zoe Easson, and Zander Easson, his sister Teresita (George) Harbaugh, his nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by all as a person who was generous to anyone in need, kind, forgiving, cheerful, a lover of nature, friend to all, enemy to none, and full of imagination, dreams, and kindness.
May God have mercy on his soul, may he have life everlasting, may we repay his loving kindness by many prayers during this most fruitful season of Lent. He would wish it so.
A funeral mass will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Rd, Dallas, TX 75238, on March 2, 2026, at 9:30 AM. Private entombment services to follow.
