So very saddened for the entire families’ loss as he was such a funny, kind and loving man who always showed how much he loved his family. My wife Michelle and I were lucky enough to meet him and celebrate family get togethers with him over the past few years. He always treated us as if we were his own kids.
Two memories come to mind for me of Bong (Always just called him Dad out of habit).
1. Around Christmas 2016, Rhona and Devin hosted a get together one weekend at their house. It was the first time Dad had met my future wife Michelle. I said “Dad, she’s a Filipina” and he said “ahhhh, ok ... let me speak with her”. Next thing, I look over at the dining table and he along with Mom are both talking to Michelle for quite some time. Michelle came over to me and said “Dad & Mom want to talk to you”. I walked over to the table and sat down. Dad / Bong asked “Are you serious about her? Do you love her? She’s a very nice girl, do not hurt her!” It was then that I realized the size of his enormous heart and kindness even to a stranger that he had just met.
2. This story I tell often. We were at a party at Thuy & Mui’s. I was in the kitchen with Devin & Dad. Dad reached for a large helping of hot papaya salad. Devin said “Be careful Dad, it’s super spicy!”. Dad glanced over at Mom and and nudged his head upward saying “Spicy like my wife“ while Mom nudged her head up acknowledging with a grin. Devin and I could not stop laughing...
We’re so very honored to have been able to spend so much time with you on this past summer vacation! We Love You Dad!!!!
Our sincerest condolences and prayers to the entire family.
