Florencio "Bong" Reyes' Obituary
On January 25, 2021, our Heavenly Father gave Florencio “Bong” Reyes his angel wings and called him into His Kingdom at the age of 72. Bong was born on February 1, 1948 as the 2nd youngest child of 9 to Pablo Reyes Sr. and Catalina Ventura Reyes. He married Nelia Suante on September 29, 1981, and they were together for over 40 years. They dedicated their lives to raising 2 children and enjoyed spending time with their family and traveling.
At a young age, Bong was able to travel around the world working as a merchant marine before settling down in Dallas, Texas. His life experience and ability to learn how things work made him a jack of all trades, working at various companies. He eventually invested in residential real estate and became the landlord and manager of his own properties. In his later years, he found joy in serving the Lord at church and in his everyday life.
Bong is survived by his wife, Nelia Reyes, his daughter and her husband, Rhona and Devin Mathews, and his son, Paul Reyes, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Taye and Preston Mathews. Nothing brought more joy to “Lolo Bong’s” world than spending time with his apos (grandchildren) and watching them grow. In addition, he is survived by his brother, sisters, nieces, nephews and their families, whom he loved dearly.
Bong was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He left a lasting impression whether you knew him for years or only met him once. He was always making people smile with his goofy jokes, dance moves, generous spirit and his own infectious smile.
Bong was one of a kind, and no one will ever replace him. He was so full of life and will be deeply missed. His memory will live on in our hearts, and until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of His hand.
Visitation at Restland Funeral Home on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 1 pm to 5 pm in the Abbey Chapel. The funeral blessing, prayer, and eulogy will be 2 pm to 5 pm. Due to COVID restrictions, the services will be broadcast online via Zoom, and the link will be provided to family and close friends. There will be a memorial mass at Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Mesquite, Texas, for which details will be provided at a later date.
