Freddie Q. Brabbin's Obituary
Freddie Quention Brabbin, born April 11, 1933, in Tye, Texas, passed away surrounded by his beloved family. A man of many talents, unyielding determination, and boundless love, Freddie left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Freddie married the love of his life, Shirley Louise Rudd Brabbin, on September 10, 1960, in Big Springs, Texas. Together, they shared over six decades of laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion to their family.
He was the cherished son of Milford Anzel Brabbin and Thelma May Fuqua Brabbin and the proud brother to Billy Brabbin, Donald Brabbin, and Jerry David Brabbin. A dedicated member of Northlake Baptist Church, Freddie's faith guided his life and decisions.
Freddie’s professional journey began with his real estate license, earned in 1950, and spanned a variety of roles, from cotton farmer and crop duster to truck driver, fencing company owner, and construction superintendent for Holford and Century Builders. His ingenuity and perseverance allowed him to thrive despite never completing school beyond the 9th grade. A skilled handyman, Freddie was the family’s go-to problem solver, always ready to take on any challenge.
Freddie’s passions extended well beyond his work. As a member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors since 1976, he found joy in restoring antique pocket watches, clocks and jewelry, collecting cameras, and pursuing hidden treasures at garage sales, curbsides, and dumpsters outside storage units. He was an avid reader, a certified scuba diver, and a dedicated craftsman whose skills were cherished by all who knew him.
He served his country proudly as Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard from 1951 to 1959, where he worked as an airplane mechanic, honing his remarkable technical abilities.
Freddie is survived by his three beloved daughters: Camellia Harper, Ginger Hoke and husband Tony, and Teresa Lain and husband Lance. He was the proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Sarah Kilbreath and husband Nick, Kayla Brown and husband Cortney, Brandon Hoke and wife Alyssa, Jeffrey Harper and wife Amanda, and Shelby Kilpatrick and husband Joseph. His legacy lives on in his ten great-grandchildren: Jordyn Kilbreath, Easton Brown, Emersyn Brown, Riley Hoke, Archer Hoke, Cooper Hoke, Everleigh Kilpatrick, Ensley Kilpatrick, Jaxon Kilpatrick, and Tatum Kilpatrick.
Freddie will be remembered not only for his many talents and diverse interests but also for his unwavering support of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose humor and wisdom brought light to every gathering. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
May he rest in peace, reunited with loved ones who went before him and forever watching over the family he held so dear.
