I would like to share this story because I think it sums her up so well. She and I were traveling together on a business trip. It was her first trip overseas. Before she left, I suggested she pack only one bag, a carry on, and her purse. Well…that didn’t happen. Gayle always dressed very nicely for work and her hair was always perfect. Clearly she wanted maintain this code, because she packed a large suit case, a shoe bag (4 pairs), a makeup bag and her purse. This was a planes, trains and automobile trip which meant we had to tote our luggage around in order to chase down trains, taxis and subway cars. It made it really tough for her. Despite the hardship, she endured. Everywhere we went, the people liked her. Particularly our fellow employees. Back then, she was terrified of standing up in front of a group and speaking. Unfortunately it was the primary reason we were traveling. We were there to teach company employees how to comply with the US trade laws. Her first class was in Scotland. She did an excellent job! Gayle had a grace about her. A easy going calm. A great sense of humor. And was a person who loved to laugh. She carried all this with her when she traveled and as a result she made many friends. I remember thinking after the trip that despite the hardship she didn’t complain. She took it all in stride. Did a great job. And, gained the respect of all she met. That was Gayle to me.
And.. I think I perhaps taught her a few things on that trip as well. Next trip…one medium sized suitcase, two pairs of shoes (one pair on, one packed), a lightweight carry bag and a purse. Net reduction—25 pounds.
Do you remember dear friend? Thank you for everything. God’s blessings and peace on all your family.
