Gene McGee Akins' Obituary
Celebrating 101 years of a life spent in love, dedication, and service to both God and family.
Gene McGee Akins went to be with her Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 29, 2025, in Dallas, Texas.
Imogene "Gene" McGee was born December 1, 1923, in Anson, TX, to Orville Lafayette McGee and Lillian White McGee. Because her father was a railroad man, the family lived in several cities; so, Gene and her brother, Gerald “Jerry” McGee, attended 13 schools before graduating from North Dallas High School. In 1946, she met and married Lawrence “Larry” Akins, and they had 2 daughters and a son.
Gene worked in a number of businesses and church offices, and began a real estate career in 1966, working in that field more than 30 years, until retirement.
From early childhood, Gene loved her precious Savior, Jesus. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Dallas, and McLaughlin Bible Class. She also loved her family dearly and praised God for the love her family members felt for each other.
Gene is preceded in death by parents Orville & Lillian McGee, brother Gerald McGee, husband Larry Akins, beloved son Lawrence “Monty” Akins and beloved daughter, Alison “Abby” Akins Zenon. She is survived by daughter Cameron Akins Menard, grandson Christopher Menard, granddaughters Gabrielle Menard Chase and Natalie Zenon, and 8 much-loved great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, at 10:30 am at Restland Funeral Home Wildwood Chapel (13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243), preceded by a 9:30 am visitation at Restland Funeral Home Wildwood Chapel and followed by an 11:30 burial in Restland Cemetery. The service will be officiated by John Cullen, Pastoral Care Associate of First Baptist Church Dallas.
