Thanks to George, I would have never known the fact that we at Airborne Express owned and flew the very first issue DC-8-61. Through his efforts, the VIN # was an exact match to our N844AX. My father, a senior most executive at Easter Airlines set our family on the inaugural flight of this jet in 1967, JFK-TJSJ. I was 8 years old. Many years later in 1995, ABX owned it, and I flew it as pilot numerous times. This book confirmed it. Company parted out the jet after which they gave me the last remaining part, the door VIN plaque which was installed after she was freight converted. Thanks George! Forever grateful!

I am really sorry to hear of his passing, even though it's been several years.

He would come in and visit at Toys by Roy at Valley View, and his wealth of knowledge of things aviation and airline was amazing. I was so happy to give him a set of 1950s TWA ticket jackets from an international trip my mother had taken, and his reaction was so kind and authentic. He gifted me several copies of his books, and a couple of them even before they were available to the public

I think often of the hours we spent just chatting and I know he is missed by everyone who knew him.

Here's to his spirit soaring into the sky he loved so well.

George my “Analog” friend. I miss you more than I never imagined. I think of you more like losing a good member of my family. 15yrs was not enough to learn of all the things you knew about. I enjoyed all the times we spent talking about the history of Snider Plaza, Dallas and aviation. There were so many subjects that you knew so much about that I can’t list them all. You kept your life simple and lived it in what I call “Analog” If you called me you called from a landline, if you wanted to see me you would walk up to see me. You have real pictures ones that you can hold and not just view on a screen. You never had a cellphone or wanted one. ( I offered a few times to get one) I not only had the pleasure of knowing you but also Jerry. The times we spent together at lunches and short shopping trips was very entertaining. Two very talented kind good people. Your kindness, caring and honest ways will always guide me.

I too first met George at the 1979 Dallas AI show. As a fellow Braniff enthusiast, George provided me so much information regarding our favorite carrier. When BN entered bankruptcy in May 1982, George invited me to come to Dallas the following weekend and stay at his families beautiful home. Such a gracious family. Over that weekend George's Dad drove us all around the area to take pictures and even repeat some locations as a result of a malfunctioning camera. From that point on we were good, good friends.

When George and I would speak on the phone, we would talk for hours often having to take a break to walk our respective dogs.

The aviation world will miss your knowledge George. Your friends will miss you as you as your were a great individual. I count myself lucky to to have known you, your family and to be able to call you friend. R.I.P George Walker Cearley Jr.

George was a good friend and fellow aviation historian. I first met George at the 1989 DTW Airline Show in June 1980. I found myself in Dallas during April 1981 to ferry a Piper plane back to San Jose, CA. I called George when I arrived that Friday morning when it was apparent the weather was not good and it would have to wait a day. George made a point that his father drive out and get me at my hotel. I was invited to their Goodfellow home and had dinner with them all and visited Georges vast aviation collection. I was returned that evening to my hotel and was able to fly out that Saturday morning for California. Years later when I had layover trips at DFW for work I always made a point to let George know I was coming to town. It was always a treat to visit him and take him out for the afternoon somewhere for a drive to a hobby shop or book store. I always made a point to take him to one of his favorite restaurants " hook line and sinker" for dinner.
I last saw George in January 2020 for a visit and dinner. I was saddened to hear of his passing this past week after a short illness. He will be sorely missed by all.

I first met George at the 1979 Airliners International Convention of which he was one of the hosts. The Sunday after the event was a day I will always treasure as he graciously opened his home to a bunch of us waiting to catch red eyes back home from DFW. I got to meet his wonderful family, enjoyed seeing his amazing collection and hearing his stories during that evening. He gave me a copy of the Dallas Morning News Sunday Magazine which had a huge article on George and his collection called "High On A Hobby". That is a cherished part of my personal collection.

Although we had not kept up that much over the decades, we would pick right up where we left off. George was such a thoughtful and wonderful friend. He reached out to me around ten years ago and sent me a group photo of him and a group of us at the Detroit Airliners International Convention in front of a DC-8. We had some great phone visits after that. My deepest sympathy to George's family and friends.

This, my friends, was an exceptionally rare and beautiful soul, on so many levels, that I cannot find words to express my gratitude for being gifted with such a friendship. So, therefore, this is not a departure announcement for those of us left behind, as much as it is an arrival announcement, back home to the place where brilliant spirits continue their magic. Thank You, My Beloved Friend. You helped shape my life and your teachings resonate deeply within my heart.
