George Sidney Gee's Obituary
George S. Gee, Jr. passed away September 13, 2023 holding fast to his trust in Jesus Christ as Lord of all, head of the church and through Him believed in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
His love of books was exceeded only by his love of family. He nourished the souls of many with his deep thoughts on theology, history, business and philosophy. His excitement when discussing Calvin’s influence on the Presbyterian church of today would make even the weariest soul feel the warmth of Christianity.
George was born March 16, 1935, in Chicago, IL and grew up in Memphis, TN. He attended Columbia Military Academy followed by Washington & Lee University. He later served in the US Army and graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He faithfully attended Westminster Presbyterian Church.
While studying in the seminary’s library, his attention was diverted by a beautiful blue eyed blonde. He married her- Susan Dring Gee, and they had three children Jennifer (married to Jim Carter), Karen (married to Robert Schlachter) and Douglas. George is also survived by his sister, Susan (married to Paul Krumhaus) and five grandchildren Michelle, Claire (married to Patrick Yoon), Larsen, David and Roby; and great grandchild Lyla.
Although George’s heart was devoted to Christ, his head was focused on making real estate deals. He loved a good challenge whether it be from his own child or a competing broker. He faced obstacles with optimism, an open mind, and his greatest gift, the ability to listen.
George believed in the democratic process and in the power of the Constitution of the United States. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an organization that is working to unite and preserve this great country.
