I just now made a call to George's church to get an update on him, and unfortunately learned of his passing just a few days ago. I was aware he had been ill, but just wanted to have a last visit with him before his passing. He was a special man to so many people, but as a college graduate back in 1969, he gave me the chance to "get me going" with my career at Mobil Oil. He had just become a manager in the company and together we had a bond that made "working" fun! I'm sorry to have missed his celebration service . . . but I know he's in a better place building boxes (I still have those he made for me) and keeping all the saints and his beloved wife, Joyce, in stitches. I was deeply saddened by the news about the death of George. George was a kind soul, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I will especially miss his smiling face and uplifting attitude. I had the pleasure of meeting George as he was my daughter and son-in-law's neighbor. I remember the many times when I would be visiting that he would greet me at the fence in their backyard; he always had a kind word to share. We had an immediate bond with George and embraced him as our own family. I will miss our visits and will treasure the handmade boxes he shared. I think about how much I will miss him.
