George James Gray Jr.'s Obituary
George James Gray, Jr. was born March 9, 1927. He passed away December 5, 2015. He is predeceased by his loving wife Joyce and is survived by his children Vicky Hughes and her husband John, Marla Jo Richardson and his grandchildren Amy Hughes and Robin Cheyenne Priester. George was born in Cade, Oklahoma a city that no longer exists. After graduation from Friendship High School in Altus, Oklahoma George went into the Navy. When he got out, he didn’t have enough money to go to Oklahoma State, so he decided to get rich quick by going to Borger, Texas and work for Phillips Petroleum. From there he went to Amarillo to work for the Globe News, where he was in charge of all the paper boys. (Remember paper boys?) Then he went to work for Mobil Oil in 1951 and eventually moved to Dallas and retired from Mobil in 1983 after working there 31 years. After retirement George began volunteering at Doctor’s Health Care on White Rock Trail. He watched the activities director make boxes out of Christmas cards to be used as decorations on the Christmas tree. George got interested in making the boxes, and to quote him, “the rest is history.” You could find George passing out boxes on Mondays at Chubbys, Wednesdays at Kroger, and Fridays at the JJ Cafe. There will be a viewing at Highlands Christian Church, 9949 McCree Road, Dallas, on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 10:00 am with the funeral following at 11:00 am at the church. Interment will be at Restland Funeral Home at 12:30 pm. There will be a reception at the church at 1:30 pm following the graveside service. Rev. Jonathan Brink and Rev. Rhonda Tracy will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Highlands Christian Church or the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
