Mr Gerald Dee Barnes' Obituary
Gerald Dee Barnes Sr passed on 7/1/2022, resting peacefully at his home
He was born in Dallas, Texas to Ruby and Harvey Dee Barnes on August 30, 1934. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas. Met his sweetheart and best friend Dan’l Rae Johnson at Cotton Bowl Skating Rink who he married on August 28, 1954.
They had 3 children, Gerald Dee Jr adding wife Kim to the family, Ralph Timothy adding wife Linda to the family & D’Anna Rae Trammell. He had 6 grandchildren Sean & Kyle Barnes, Megan Rollins, Jennifer Jacobs, Timmy & Nicholas Trammell and 10 great grandchildren Justus, Kellen, Addison, Everleigh, Jayden, Emerson, Avery, Matilda, Mabel and Liam, his sisters Joyce Riddle, Darla Larson and brother Gary Lambert, also his two Great Granddogs Andi & Charlie.
Christmas was always a special time once they married when they began the tradition of having ALL his family gathering at their house on Christmas Eve.
He worked in printing until it became a fading trade. He then went into Air Conditioning and worked on all his family, friends and neighbors air well after he retired from the business.
Most of all he loved spending time with his family, a lot of that on his patio around the pool. Family always came first. He enjoyed traveling (but only if he could drive, he refused to fly), reading (self taught himself to speed read), doing puzzles, playing solitaire on the computer (bragged about the number of winning games he played) and in his younger years loved going to the lake in his boat to take everyone skiing.
After he retired for more than 20 years, Monday’s were special days as family, extended family and many friends were all welcome to drop in to visit have a drink, talk over the past and present and share memories. Never knew who or how many would just drop in on any given Monday.
All that knew him loved him and he will be greatly missed!
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 10:00am in the Wildwood Chapel, which is located within Restland Cemetery - 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243
