Gerald Edward Hubbard's Obituary
Loving Christian, husband and father, Gerald Edward Hubbard, known to friends as ‘Hub’ was born in Canton, TX on January 22, 1934 and entered his heavenly home on July 2, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Glenn Hubbard and Olga Teel Hubbard as well as his brother, Glen. He is survived by wife Barbara, daughter Pam, and many other close family members, nieces and nephews.
Gerald experienced a loving childhood and shared an especially close relationship with his brother Glen. He married his childhood sweetheart and constant companion of 68 years, Barbara, on December 22, 1953, and completed his family with daughter Pam. He lived a full and joyous life, and seldom met a stranger. He enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone, friends and strangers, and maintained close friendships with all ages throughout his life. His commitment to God’s Word began in childhood and remained throughout his life, being an involved Church of Christ member in Dallas and San Antonio. He taught Bible Credit, Sunday classes, home devotionals and was a dedicated student of the Bible daily.
Gerald’s career revolved around the railroad and freight business. He became a terminal manager of Texas Shippers in Houston and San Antonio. He enjoyed watching and participating in sports throughout his life. He played basketball for the Railroad, and became a pitcher in San Antonio’s city slow pitch league, completing his last pitch at the age of 75. He coached a girls church softball team in Dallas and played softball in several church leagues. He enjoyed snow-skiing vacations with family and friends, golf outings with close friends, and was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan. He loved his yardwork, home projects, mall-walking, staying busy and active, and spending so much time with his beloved family.
A life well lived, a man so deeply loved by his family who will be looking forward to God’s promised reunion.
The family thanks TX Health Rockwall and Presbyterian of Dallas for their doctors’ care and, most importantly, all nursing and tech staff who were so caring, kind and helpful. Burial was completed at Restland Dallas and a celebration of life service will be held Saturday, July 23 at 2pm at Meadow View Church of Christ, 4100 N Galloway Ave., Mesquite, TX 75150. As an alternative to flowers, donations may be made to the good community works of Meadow View Church of Christ in Mesquite, Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas, or to the American Cancer Society.
