Gloria Fillmon's Obituary
Gloria Daire Fillmon, mother, grandmother, sister, mentor to many, friend to all, and married for life to Fred Allen Fillmon, who preceded her in death, Passed away Friday, July 2, 2021, in Frisco, TX.
Born June 10, 1945, in Fort Worth, TX, to Ruby Ola Rice and was adopted and raised by Ruby and Howard Alvia “Mike” Rettig. She had small beginnings but a big will to shine. She was a Texan through and through. Her big mind, big heart and big will were her greatest attributes.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Fillmon-Smith and husband Larry of Dallas, TX. Cindy Suzanne Thompson and her husband Jeff of The Colony, TX. Grandsons, Zachery Christian Wilson of Mount Pleasant, TX, Tiger Cole Smith of Dallas, TX, and Casey Brooks Thompson of The Colony, TX. Granddaughter Rory Golden Smith of Saint Louis, MO. Sisters Dinah Roxann Rettig of Granbury, TX. Nena Brewer Martin of Nikiski, AK.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Allen Fillmon. Her precious, most special, Grandmother Evie Laura Rice. Mother Ruby Ola Rice Brewer. Father Howard Alivia “Mike” Rettig. Brother, Larry Eugene Rettig.
Gloria had a 49-year career in the mortgage industry, all starting with Real Estate School she attended at the University of Texas, Austin. Gloria joined American Pacific Mortgage in 2015 as Chief Compliance & Risk Officer, after many years’ experience in the mortgage lending industry. At the end of 2019, Gloria turned over the responsibility of Compliance to our current Chief Compliance Officer to concentrate fully on enterprise-wide risk management. Gloria’s expertise ranges from production to compliance, and for the past 27 years her concentration has solely been on managing and directing regulatory compliance for national mortgage banking operations. She has authored numerous fair lending, consumer protection and regulatory compliance training programs and has consulted with lenders to develop their own fair lending training and monitoring programs.
Gloria has become the go-to industry expert on both a local and national level. As a Toastmaster, Gloria is highly sought after by lending institutions, regulatory agencies, REALTOR® and lender trade groups, to provide presentations, workshops, and training on RESPA, ECOA, HMDA, and fair lending guidelines. Gloria has had many awards and accolades with some of the most recent being Mortgage Magazine’s Woman of the Year in 2019 as well as one of National Mortgage Professional Magazine’s, Mortgage Banking’s Most Powerful Women in 2018.
Gloria loved to travel and be with family. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and her glamorous 1940’s and 50’s Hollywood movies. She
was an incredible cook, she loved to travel, paint, and adored her precious poodle, Sophie.
She will be missed by many and was loved by all who knew her.
