The Bertha Baker family and The Good Samaritan @ The Baker Estate project extend not only condolences, but sincere “Thanks” to you in acknowledgement of your mother and her genuine spirit.
I am Vanessa Baker, caretaker of the structure that was the Good Samaritan Hospital. I began researching the history of this wonderful building of which I had been told all of my life – from hospital care to residential accommodation – was a source of humanitarian outreach. I began my research through the Dallas directory, which provided an address for your father’s Veterinary Clinic. My mother and I drove there; however, it had closed.
I continued my research and found Mrs. Gudie’s phone number. When I called and introduced myself, she openly welcomed my mom and me to her home, where upon we enjoyed an extensively pleasant and benevolent visit. As she introduced me to other members of the “hospital” family, my research and the project continued to thrive. I will forever be thankful to her for her kind spirit.
Today, I thank you for sharing her with me, and I take pleasure in chronicling this history that will be shared with all of humanity.

Our family is mourning the loss of a remarkable woman, Aunt Gudie, whose compassion made every person she met feel valued and respected. She navigated life with both grace and humor, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. While we deeply miss her, we are forever enriched by her love and the firm foundation she built for us to stand on. She is now at rest, reunited with Uncle Don. Chuck
