Hallie Laverne McGilberry's Obituary
Hallie Laverne McGilberry entered eternal life on August 28, 2015 at her home in Dallas surrounded by her husband, children and loved ones. Laverne was born January 25, 1929 in Creek, Texas to Earl and Hallie Hester. One of six children, Laverne “left the country” when she married the love of her life, Clarence “CB” McGilberry on October 30th, 1946. Laverne and Clarence’s life adventure began when they moved from Crockett. Texas for Clarence’s job with Mobil Oil Corporation. They lived in numerous towns in Texas, Illinois, and Alabama and were blessed with raising a family of six children. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Laverne was a devoted mother who cared for her large family with unconditional love. Her love of family was surpassed by her love of the Lord and her church, as she was a long time member at Northway Baptist Church and later at Park Cities Baptist Church. After raising her family, Laverne taught children at a local church daycare and was later employed at UPS before retiring. Laverne loved being a mother, but she especially loved being a grandmother. Known for her ease in conversation, Laverne never met a stranger. Laverne leaves behind a legacy of family that will miss her deeply, but who finds peace in the knowledge she is now in the loving arms of Jesus, with her granddaughter Kate Alden Taylor and with family and friends that have preceded her. Her loving spirit will be carried on for generations by family and friends whose lives will be forever touched and grateful for knowing her. Laverne is survived by her husband Clarence whom she was married to for sixty eight years; children: LaWanda Taylor and husband Earl, Beverly Swafford, Steve McGilberry and wife Sally, Sandra Flanagan and husband James, John McGilberry and wife Gina, James McGilberry and wife Michelle; and twelve grandchildren and six-great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm Monday, August 31, 2015 at Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Contributions may be made in Laverne’s honor to the Creek Cemetery in Houston County, Texas to Mary Beth Lucas in c/o the Creek Cemetery Fund, 485 Briargrove, Crockett, TX 75835. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
