Helen Wong Jung's Obituary
Helen Wong Jung, most cherished and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2021, at the age of 89. Helen was born Yuet Oy Wong on January 21, 1932, in Hoi Ping County in Guangdong Province, China.
She was "chosen" by Buck Jung to be his bride in a somewhat arranged marriage in 1948. For Buck, it was love at first sight. According to Helen, she was less than smitten, but grew to love him. Their love lasted through 73 years of good times, hardships, sickness and health.
Helen immigrated to America in 1949, three months prior to Buck's arrival and 6 months prior to the birth of their first child. Dallas has been their home since they arrived in America and is where they raised their three children.
Helen became a Christian and was baptized at First Baptist Dallas where she was a member of the Chinese Chapel. Most recently, she had attended First Chinese Baptist Church of Dallas.
She was the epitome of a traditional Chinese wife. She worked beside her husband until they retired in 2010. Throughout their marriage, they were never apart. They formed Golden Gate Foods, manufacturing Asian food products and supplying most of the Asian restaurants in the Dallas metroplex, throughout Texas and surrounding states.
She was the matriarch of the family, but was also a mother figure affectionately known as Auntie Helen to friends and her church family. She was famous for preparing healing soups for any ailment. She was selfless, generous to a fault and although she was petite in stature, she was a very tough cookie. Everyone who met Helen was touched by her gracious, kind and loving spirit. Named by her grandfather, the meaning of Helen's Chinese name truly reflects her character and accurately describes her personality. The name Yuet Oy means cheerful, pleasant, kind hearted, compassionate, loving. She exemplified all of these characteristics with her grace and unassuming nature.
The woman known as Mom, YinYin, PohPoh and Auntie Helen will be missed immensely, but we find comfort in knowing that we will all meet again one day in Heaven.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and sister Yuet Ngan Gin. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Buck Jung; son Steven Jung and wife Alice; daughter Linda Jung Wong and husband George; daughter Karen Jung Henery and husband Mike; grandchildren Rob Jung and wife Isabelle, Jennifer Many and husband Max, Pam Ho and husband Mantak, Travis Jung and wife Angie, Justin Wong and wife Anna, Kristin Wong and husband Ryan Chan, Melanie Wong and husband Tim Shaw, Andrew Henery and wife Skyler, Jennifer Henery Speer and husband Kyle, and Matthew Henery; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Chiu Chit Wong and family in Montreal, Quebec Canada; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
