Helen Grant Peeples' Obituary
Helen Grant Peeples, 98, was called home early on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in Garland, Texas. She was born on October 28, 1923, in Prairie Lea, Texas to Effie and Robert Grant. She was the youngest of seven children. Born in 1923, Helen experienced a full life and contributed to the lives of young and old, friends and acquaintances, and especially to her family. With no children of her own she stayed up to date with nieces and nephews and was endearingly known as “Aunt Helen” to most everyone.
Today, we celebrate the life of Aunt Helen. Having lived 98 years many of Helen’s friends and all her siblings are welcoming her in through the Pearly Gates.
In the early years Helen graduated in 1941 with High Honors from Dallas High School. Professionally Helen was a stenographer and highly regarded for her loyalty and exceptional work. Helen enjoyed a very successful career at U.S. Steel.
Her husband Marion E. Peeples (“Dixie”) was a successful banker at the Mercantile Bank in Dallas, Texas. After both retiring from the business world, the two of them jet-set around the world. Helen would riminess about going to China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific Islands, and how she and “Dixie” would have to stop off in Hawaii on the way back to Texas. The reason for the many trips to Hawaii, as she put it, “to rest up from their journeys”. They also spent time in Europe and other adventures.
Even with the travel Aunt Helen always made time for family gatherings and events. Aunt Helen was at weddings, funerals and celebrated as many nieces, nephews as she possibly could including the great, the great-great, and the great-great-great. Aunt Helen was present and proud of her family, and we can celebrate her homegoing knowing in her way she helped make us better people.
Aunt Helen will be missed. Family gatherings won’t be the same without her individually wrapped apricot pies, her perfectly (placed in a tin) salted pecan halves, and if you know what “pink stuff” is, then you too can call her “Aunt Helen”.
The family will hold visitation at 8:30am on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Restland Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 9:00am at Restland Memorial Park. 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas. Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to ABBA Care Assisted Living at 1201 High Grove Dr, Garland TX 75041.
