The Ewing Family is saddened to hear of Helon's passing. She was a dear friend of our family. Betty (Nanny) and she were SMU roommates and also shared the same birthday and birth year. Nanny spoke of her often. Our last visit to see Helon was in 2015, but since then Nanny has been in a memory care facility in Conroe. Nanny recently turned 99 and is still with us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
I hold many cherished memories of my cousin Helen. Our family reunions each summer were a source of great joy, and I always looked forward to spending time around her. Helen carried a lightness of spirit and a sparkle in her eye that made her presence unforgettable—she was truly a “fun” and joyful soul.
Though we lived in different cities, both Helen and Gene left a meaningful impression on me during my youth. Their kindness, laughter, and joy left seeds in my heart that I still carry.
As all gather to celebrate Helen’s life in the coming weeks, my thoughts and prayers are with Ginny, Mitch, and the whole family. May God’s peace surround you, and may you find comfort in the assurance that Helen’s spirit lives on.
