Helon Hortense Mitchell Cullen, 99, Richardson Texas passed away on July 16, 2025, in
Dallas, Texas.
Helon was born May 13, 1926, in Sherman, Texas to Frank Bivins Mitchell and Mary Imogene Gregory Mitchell.
The Mitchell Family moved to Dallas when Helon was 2 and resided on the corner of Drexell and Hillcrest until she graduated from SMU. Her father was the Pharmacist and owner of the Highland Park Pharmacy for many years. She graduated from Highland Park High School and SMU with both a BS and MS degree in Education. She was recognized in the Who's Who of American College students. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She started her teaching career as a PE teacher at Highland Park I.S.D. She was also the Athletic Director at Ursuline Academy in Dallas from 1966 -1978.
Helon Married Gene Charles Cullen in Dallas, Texas, December 22,1954. They were happily married for 55 years until his passing in January 2009. She is survived by her daughter Virginia (Ginny) Cullen and Lisa Hood, and her son Mitchell and wife Ronda Cullen of Argyle TX. Grandsons are Aaron Mitchell Cullen and Carsey Cullen of Ft. Worth, Clayton Jennings Cullen and Kelsi Cullen of Ft. Worth and Spencer Gregory Cullen of Richardson.
Helon and Gene were long time members of First Christian Church in Richardson and were charter members of Centre Tennis Club in Richardson where they made many longtime friends. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Richardson Texas at 2pm. Graveside Services for family only will be on July 30, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park Dallas Texas.
