Herbert Algernon Linder's Obituary
Herbert Algernon Linder, 88, passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas on January 26th, 2025, surrounded by friends and family. Born on July 8th, 1936, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Herbert C. and Dorothy M. Linder. Herbert grew up alongside his brother, Walter, and sister, Lillian. From an early age, he embodied the values of hard work, family, and faith.
Herbert's dedication to his community was evident at a young age as he delivered the local newspaper, The Daily Ardmorite, throughout Junior High and High School, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during his schooling, and even worked as a Lifeguard for a short time.
Following high school, Herbert joined the military in 1956. After rigorous training at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he earned the distinguished title of Green Beret and served as a Paratrooper until 1959.
After his military service, Herbert earned a business degree in Oklahoma and embarked on a distinguished career with the U.S. Treasury Department, investigating White Collar Crime in Texas, Washington D.C., and New York. His commitment to justice and integrity was unwavering.
Herbert was a devoted member of his church, where he served as a deacon and taught in the youth department for several years. His faith and dedication to his church community were cornerstones of his life.
Herbert was also an avid mystery fan, with a particular love for Sherlock Holmes. He was a member of the The Crew of the Barque Lone Star Chapter of the Baker Street Irregulars,an international literary society with a focus on the canon of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, where he enjoyed discussing the intricate plots and brilliant deductions of his favorite detective. His passion for mysteries was a reflection of his sharp mind and love for problem-solving.
Above all else, Herbert cherished his family. He was actively involved in his children's lives, participating in sports and the Boy Scouts of America.
Herbert is preceeded in death by his parents, Herbert C. Linder and Dorothy M. Linder (Buck); and his son, Michael A. Linder.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Linder (Ellis); his son, Phillip Linder and wife, Stephanie; his grandchildren, Michael H. Linder, Maddox Linder, Margo Linder, and Mallory Linder; his brother, Walter Linder of Garland, Texas; his sister Lillian Collins of Ardmore, Oklahoma - as well as many other extended family, and friends - all of whom will miss him dearly.
Herbert leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the values he held dear, and those values will remain a constant in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 13th, 2025,at Lakepointe Church of East Dallas, 9150 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas, 75218 - where friends and family will gather to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
