Herbert Logan Peel's Obituary
Herbert Logan Peel’s soul left his earthly body in Garland, Texas, on December 3, 2014. Herb was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on December 1, 1928, to parents Charles and Willie Leib Peel. Herb’s early years were spent in the oilfields of Central Oklahoma as his father was transferred from field to field by Gypsy Oil Company, subsidiary of Gulf Oil. Herb graduated high school in Konawa, Oklahoma, in 1946. He studied at Oklahoma A&M College for a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Option. While working in Jacksboro, Texas, during 1949 as an engineering trainee for Shell Oil, Herb met and fell deeply in love with Jo Herd, his wife-to-be and his love forever. In the spring of 1950, Jo and Herb married, he received an officer’s commission in the Air Force and finished his college education, and the United States entered the Korean Conflict. Herb served two years of active duty in Northern Alaska during the Korean War, involved with early operation of the Dew Line and Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 4 at Point Barrow. After active duty, Herb returned to Oklahoma and his work as a petroleum engineer. Several relocations evolved for Jo and Herb as they followed work in the oil fields. During his active years, Herb planned and supervised the drilling, completion, and operation of oil and gas wells extending from northern Montana to offshore Louisiana. In 1959, Herb and Jo settled in Dallas-Lake Highlands after moves from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wichita Falls. In Dallas they were members of First Community Church before joining Northridge Presbyterian. Herb’s wife Jo and his son, Mark Charles Peel, preceded him in death. Herb was forever grateful for the AA Program, its members, and a Higher Power that enabled him to remain sober from July 27, 1985, to his death. Herb was also very grateful to his caretaker Barbara for her friendship and service during the last few years of his life. A memorial service for Herb will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Northridge Presbyterian Church, 6920 Bob O Link Drive, Dallas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Northridge Presbyterian Church.
