Homer Edward Stone's Obituary
Dr Homer Edward Stone(Ed) passed away on March 15, 2019 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas at 10:10 am from Systemic Septicemia. He lived a full life full of challenges, joy , heartbreak and acceptance. He was born on July 2, 1940 to David Hutton Stone and Eleanor Anna Jane Shaffer in Steubenville, Ohio. He was the oldest of three children. His brother, David Lawrence (Larry) Stone, passed eight years ago. His family survivors are: Nancy Jane (Stone) Peterson, his sister from Auckland, New Zealand. Cousin, Deborah Stone Culver and children from Washington state. Niece, Jamie Stone Gutteridge and her family from San Diego, California, and his Thorburn cousins in Ohio from his grandmother, Katy Thorburn Stone’s side of the family and Ekey cousins from grandfather Homer Stone’s side, and cousin Mary Clement Jamison from his mother’s side of the family.Dr H. Edward Stone (Ed) was an avid intellectual who enjoyed reading,working mathematical equations and engaging in philosophical discussions. Ed received his undergraduate degree from Case Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics in 1962. He received his masters and graduate degree from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas, in 1967 and 1969. He taught as associate professor in mathematics in universities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the early 1970s, Shreveport, Louisiana in the late 1970s. He worked for Dallas Tech companies in the 1980s to mid 1990s. Prior to retirement, he taught at University of Texas Dallas as Senior Lecturer until 2008. Dr H. Edward Stone (Ed) was always engaged in groups like the Dallas Philosopher’s Forum, Dallas College of Complexes and the Adult Discussion class at our church, First Unitarian Church of Dallas.Dr H. Edward Stone (Ed) married Susan De Wees on August 27, 1966 in Dallas and had one daughter, Katy Stone born April 14, 1970 in Pittsburgh, Penn. Susan and Ed divorced about 1994 in Dallas, Texas. Katy was married and had two daughters, Alison Clare Hagen, born April 26, 2001 and Alexis Grace Hagen, October 3, 2003. All three Katy, Alison and Alexis died in a fatal car crash on September 4, 2006 on I35 in Waxahatchie, Texas.He married Rosalinda Trevino Stone in 1996 by Judge Barefoot Sanders in Dallas, Texas and he was loved by her daughters, Adrienne Lopez and Lisa McKnight. Lisa’s daughter Madelyn Elise and son-in-law, Ernie McKnight. Although Rosalinda and Ed divorced, Rosalinda and her daughters always accepted Ed as family. We have administered to his needs since his paralyzing fall in August, 2016, and his dementia. He will be deeply missed.A Memorial Service will be held on March 28, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas.
