Mr Homer Doyle Thornton's Obituary
Homer passed away at his home in Dallas, TX on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. He was born in Houston, TX on November 26, 1930. Homer entered the United States Air Force in 1951, retiring from the AF Reserves in 1969. He married Peggy on February 12, 1954 at Trinity Baptist Church in Houston. Homer attended the University of Houston receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was on the cutting edge of the computer industry throughout his career. Homer was father to three sons and one daughter, grandfather to seven and great-grandfather to three. Homer loved the Lord and seized every opportunity to serve Him encouraging his family to walk with him along the journey. Homer was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Dallas. He was an active volunteer with Texas Baptist Men in disaster relief, church building and various other activities. Homer was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and skiing. He found great joy in sharing his love for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
Homer is survived by wife Peggy, and his children: Chris and wife Judi Thornton, Terri and husband Roger Shaffer; Randy and wife Luanne Thornton; Craig and wife Sylvia Thornton.
Grandchildren: Blake and wife Jena Austin, Cody Bonewald, Sam Thornton, Ryan Thornton, Becca Thornton, Josh Thornton, and Ben Thornton.
Great-grandchildren: Chandler, Ethan, and Aaron Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Dallas and/or Texas Baptist Men.
Graveside Services will be Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX and the memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX.
