Ina Anne Yates' Obituary
YATES, INA ANNE Passed away September 15, 2010.She was born July 12, 1910 in Bethany, Louisiana, and grew up in Greenwood, Louisiana. Later she and her family moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She was the third of four daughters born to John Edwin Oden and Nettie Westmorland Oden, all of whom are deceased. She loved the outdoors and all kinds of sporting activities. While in high school she played forward on her girl’s basketball team. She was an avid reader and a serious student. She was valedictorian of her senior class. After graduation she attended Louisiana Tech and earned her degree at Centenary College. The school system in Shreveport, Louisiana employed her to teach sixth grade which she did for a quarter of a century. Her family moved to Dallas and she was employed to teach sixth grade at the George B. Dealey Elementary School. She taught there until the school closed. She finished her teaching career at Henry W. Longfellow. While teaching she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota. She was a member of UPUMC for 46 years; Mr & Mrs Sunday School Class; United Methodist Women; 2 book clubs, Browning Book Club and Northway Review Club. For almost 50 years she was married to fun loving Bob Yates who passed away in 1991. Survivors are identical twin daughters, Jane Reardon and husband Bill, Jean Newman and husband Jim and beloved grandson Bryan Newman. Anne was a dedicated teacher who was quite fond of her students. Teaching them to speak excellent English was her forte. She enjoyed teaching and the fellowship of the other faculty members. She often laughed as she told about amusing incidents in her classroom. For the last three years she lived at Walnut Place. We would like to thank the staff for their kind and caring help while she was there. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service for Anne will be held at University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Blvd. in Dallas, at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 25, 2010. Private interment. Memorials can be sent to the University Park United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
