Inez Lucille Harper's Obituary
After a lifetime of bringing joy and comfort to others, this faithful servant has gone home to rest. Inez Keller Harper, born Nov. 17, 1910, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was one of five children born to Luella and Harry Keller. She is the last survivor of her family, and passed away Sept. 4, 2009. In 1929, Inez married her lifetime sweetheart, Henry Harper. They raised two children in a home filled with friends, fun and love. They lived in Indiana, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio and Maryland. After retirement, they moved to Dallas to be near their children. In 1972, when Inez was newly widowed, she became a volunteer at Medical City Dallas, where she was popular with nurses, doctors and patients. She accumulated more than 8,000 hours of service and many friends. Always known for her quick wit and out-going personality, she kept everyone laughing at the various assisted living homes where she resided in late life. She became known as “Big Mama”, not a reference to size, but to her status as oldest member of the household. An avid sports fan, she was sad to lose her eyesight, as she could no longer see her games, or read the newspaper sports section. The family would say, “She can only see light, dark, motion, Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks.” Life sized cardboard images of Emmitt Smith and Troy Aiken were hidden under her bed, which allowed her to quip, “I sleep with two Cowboys every night!” On game day, out came those mannequins, wall posters, streamers, pom-poms, and she and her best friends, Susan and Bess, would sit in front of the TV, cheering; wearing, of course, their game-day outfits. If you knew her, you will never forget her. She leaves behind a son, Sonny Harper and his wife, Diane, of Reedville, VA; a daughter, Joann Snyder, of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Jana Anderson and her husband, Charles (Edmond, OK), Bill Harper and wife Sharon, (Maryland), Andy Harper and wife Cindy (Maryland), and Laurie Pool (Lucas, TX). Her beloved first grandchild, Kim, died in 2001. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. A host of friends join the family in grieving the loss of this bright soul. Her special caregiver, Patricia Hinton, filled her last years with peace and comfort, and will be always loved by the family. Services are planned for 12:30pm, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Restland’s Wildwood Chapel, with interment to follow in Restland Memorial Park, Garden of Cross.
