Irma Jean Dobbins' Obituary
Irma Jean Dobbins was born on February 18, 1948, to the late James Walter and Alberta Dobbins in Fayette County, Texas.
Irma accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized where she was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Roundtop, Texas. She attended and graduated from La Grange High School where she excelled in academics and competed in sports; basketball and tennis were her favorites.
After graduation, Irma enrolled at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas where she majored in Biology and pledged the Greek Sorority of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Upon receiving her bachelor's degree, she relocated to Dallas, Texas where she began her professional journey at Texas Instruments. Eventually, she found her career passion working in Medical Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where she collaborated with many special colleagues and subsequently retired after 40 years of devoted service.
Irma was an avid sports fan cheering on her Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Star. For many years she enjoyed playing competitive softball and weekend tennis. Irma loved to compete in life and sports alike.
Preceding Irma in death are her parents, two brothers, Edward Lee (Ray) and Verde; three sisters, Darlene, Vernell, and Inez; and a few loved nieces and nephews.
Irma is survived by three sisters; Gloria Stevens (Wilford Sr.) of Desoto, TX, La Vern Bass of Sacramento, CA., and Alberta Robinson of Houston; one brother James L. Dobbins of Houston, TX. In addition, Irma is survived by host of beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives and close friends. Although Irma didn’t have any kids of her own, she formed a very nurturing bond with her nephew Wilford Jr and niece Patricia Stevens.
Irma’s tenacious spirit and abundant good-will is truly a reason to celebrate her well-lived life.
