Jack and my dad James Hobbs were longtime friends. They lived one street over from Jack and he frequently stopped by to check up on them. After dad past away in 2010 Jack would stop by several times a week and look in on mom and if he thought something wasn't right he would call me and let me know. I will always be grateful to him for that. I remember he always had a smile on his face and never seemed to have a bad day, maybe it was from all the hours he spent riding his many motorcycles. After graduating from the Dallas Police Academy in March, 1964, I was assigned to the White Rock Substation. My first trainer was J.Y, and I was lucky because J.Y was a dedicated officer and did an outstanding job of helping me adjust to police life. I think his professionalism while training me helped me be nominated as Rookie of the year in 1964. It was a pleasure working with JY and as I promoted up within the department I always kept up with how JY was doing. I'm sorry I was unable to attend his funeral service but I will always think about him and how he affected my police career. Gerald Lancaster Captain 1912 Retired
