Jack Pugh's Obituary
Growing up in the small town of Logansport, LA, Jack was son of Murray and Mabel Pugh and the older brother of Carolyn. He graduated from a high school class of 13 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in early 1945, during World War II. After boot camp in San Diego, CA, he was assigned to the U.S.S. White Marsh and sailed to Tokyo Bay. While there, unbeknownst to him and other enlisted men, the Japanese surrender treaty was signed aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, also in the bay. Jack was honorably discharged in 1946. Jack went on to attend Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge as an engineering student. While there, he was placed on the Dean’s List for his high grades, which prompted him to write his congressman and obtain an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. On a trip home, he met the love of his life, Elouise Gross, and the two were married after graduation. Jack and Elouise had three children, Thomas, Jacquelyn, and Frederick. Jack continued his training in the U.S. Navy by attending night classes at the Naval Base in Norfolk, VA in order to earn a master’s degree in business from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The last appointment in the Navy for Jack was in Dallas for the Defense Contract Administration, which served all of the armed forces. Jack retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1971. Jack went on to work with the then-new computer technology for JC Penney in the corporate headquarters at Legacy until 1990, when he retired from his position of Data Processing Manager. Jack later applied to the then-new Texas Wesleyan School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1994. From 1994 to 2015, Jack managed his own investments and estate while enjoying interests during his retirement, such as the Sherlock Holmes Club. Jack is survived by his sister, Carolyn Rainer (and husband Bill) of Shreveport, LA, and his children Tom (and wife Pat of Placentia, CA), Jackie Lamb (and husband, Reid) of Highland Village, TX, their children Evan Thomas Lamb and Jonathan Reid Lamb, son Frederick Ellis Pugh (and his wife Martha), and granddaughter Jessica Pugh of Lake Tualatin, OR.
