Dad actually had been chosen for the Trust Dept top job, Managing Director (I worked for the Director in charge of that committee), (and Dad got me that job) but Dad had a detached retina before he could be officially named- I love and miss you Dad, you were the best of the best. WHB
I’ve been very blessed with a few mentors in my life and Jim was the one that launched my 45 year career in the trust business in 1975 at Republic Bank. I wouldn’t be where I am without him giving me a shot and being a true friend ever since. I regret not seeing him in recent years, but kept up with him through his wife Mary.
I noticed Don Durham posted earlier. He was also a friend and mentor for a long time.

When our banks merged in 1987, I reported to Jim. It was a stressful time for all the employees. I admired and respected Jim so much. He was a "strait shooter". You always knew where you stood with Jim. As Don Durham posted, he made good decisions - always fair. And he had a great sense of humor. I noticed he seemed to favor one of his knees, and I asked him if he had an injury. He said, yes, Cotton Bowl of 1954. Wow, you played in that game!?, I asked. No, he said, I tripped in the stands going to get a beer. Ha! I tell that story all the time. True or not, pretty funny and priceless Jim Bevans. Rest in peace, friend. Lenny Krasnow
I had the honor of working for Jim Bevans at the bank. He had a tough exterior but was a gentle giant who taught me so much. The opportunities he provided me I am forever grateful for. He was such a strong and amazing leader. May he rest in peace.
I loved Jim Bevans as my boss both in Dallas with Bank of America and First Republic. Jim made quick decisions and the best decisions. He was also my close friend. My deepest sympathy to his family. I will miss him. Don Durham
