Nobody can replace my Uncle Jim (we called him Uncle Bo)… though he was my father’s only brother, he stood in place of multiple men in my life. Friend, counselor, confidant, teacher and guardian of decency, trust, integrity and honesty. After dad’s passing back in 1977, Uncle Jim has been an exemplary example of dignity, mercy, forthrightness and grace. Having him as an Uncle helped to soften the blow of losing dad so early, and gave me that solid “male leadership” connection to my family that every young man needs. Passing through various stages of life, Uncle Jim was there. Not intrusive or pushy. No, he was standing quite, resolute, firm and calm… always ready with a very short, very direct answer to any question, and the shortest, most distinct and effective direction whenever it was needed. But mostly, he was an example. He didn’t tell me the way. He showed the way. He modeled the way. No… he didn’t tell you how to live your life, he showed you. Every day. His wisdom and demeanor has been a steady influence throughout my life’s journey. Just knowing he was here if I needed him, gave me strength. Rest well Uncle Bo. And thanks… for everything.
James Gambill was a man that holds a special place in my heart. My Uncle Jim was of a rare breed. He was always for the better of the other person, before himself. His laughter, you could pick out in a crowded room. He loved to play and teach the younger ones how to play the game of dominoes. In better days, he always had a listening ear. You Uncle Jim, will live on in my heart. Rest in peace
