James Franklin Loper's Obituary
James “Sonny” Franklin Loper, 77, of Dallas, Texas passed away on December 3, 2016. Sonny was a loving and loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife Paula and their two children, Chris and his wife Nicole, and Kevin and his fiancé Leslie Bateman; three granddaughters Kennedy, Kendyl and Chelsea; grandson Quintin; cousin Stephen Loper and his wife Patricia and three children Henri, Charlotte and Ona of Bluffton, SC; cousins Kenny Townley, Donna Townley, and Woodrow Moore; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Flo Loper. Sonny was a native Dallasite, born March 25, 1939, who graduated from North Dallas High School in 1957 and then attended Texas Tech University where he received his engineering degree in 1961 and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After college, he served in the United States Army and Army Reserve. He married Paula Quinn in 1966 and was her devoted husband for over 50 years. Recognized for outstanding service in Highway Engineering and Transportation, Sonny worked for Texas Department of Transportation from summers in high school until he retired in 1999. He continued his career by joining Dannenbaum Engineering Corp. where he currently worked. Sonny truly enjoyed mentoring young engineers and took pride in seeing their accomplishments. He enjoyed relaxing at home, working in the yard, caring for his two beloved dogs, Snickers and Maddie and driving his Z06 ‘Vette. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 7th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services for Sonny will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8th at 2:00 PM at Church of the Incarnation located at 3966 McKinney Ave., Dallas. Sonny will be laid to rest at Restland in Dallas, TX.
