Jim was the single biggest influence in my career at TI. He knew how to get things done at TI, and he carried me with him through the extraordinary early times of the transistor. He was an engineering inspiration, and he made a big difference at TI. Almost as important, he taught me how to fly-fish. I'll miss ol' Jim. Ol' Ed
Jim was an interesting person who would always get the job done, no matter what experience he had in an area. I enoyed tales from his experiences in international physical security toward the end of his career with TI while we shared an office area. He also had some interesting management strategies which lead to the introduction of the theory of "Hub Capping" at TI. This was used in a situation when the attention of the reviewers of a project was to be diverted from something you wished they would not observe.
