James Charles Rader's Obituary
Much loved, respected, caring, giving, generous, compassionate, fun loving, thoughtful, fearless, impactful, friend. These are words that describe James (Jim) Charles Rader, who left us to be with our heavenly Father on May 23, 2017. A resident of Fairview and Sadler, Texas, Jim was born on June 18, 1947 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to James Claude and Flossy Jane Babb Rader. A proud Texan, he came to the Dallas area as soon as possible, attended L. V. Stockard Middle School, and graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School in 1965. Jim attended the University of Texas at Arlington before he began work full time with Lone Star Consolidated Foods in 1966 and from there he retired as President and Chief Operating Officer after 39 years. Subsequently, Jim joined the staff at Dallas Lutheran School as Development Director, later adding duties as Business Manager, until he retired in the Spring of 2016. Jim has been very happily married to Susan Holley Rader since November 17, 1984. Their combined family includes: son, John Rader, daughter-in-law Paige Furr, and grandchildren Aubrey, Ceci, Julia and Ana, and daughter, Monica Palmer Betaque, son-in-law Andrew Betaque and grandsons, Justin, Ethan, Liam and Owen. Other family members include: Jim’s sister, Bobbie Rader Burgess (deceased, January 2011), brother-in-law Billy Burgess, nephew Bryan Burgess and wife Cathey Burgess, and great-niece Cassidy Burgess, nephew Brandon Burgess, great-niece Bailey Burgess, sister-in-law Libby Meyer, husband John Meyer, niece Brianne Meyer and nephew, Logan Meyer, brother-in law, Steven Holley, nephew Chase Holley and niece Taylor Holley. A man of many interests, Jim was an avid sportsman and member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, archery, golf, and travel and looked forward to spending time at their “camp”, boating with friends and family on Lake Texoma. Most important to Jim however, was the time he spent serving the Lord in ministry. Throughout his adult life, Jim was actively engaged in discipling other men, serving the homeless, building community and feeding the poor. A thanksgiving for and celebration of Jim’s life will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at The Museum of Biblical Arts, 7500 Park Lane, Dallas, Texas 75225 with Pastor Charles Houska officiating, assisted by Pastor Donald Berg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dallas Lutheran School for the Gastler/Rader Scholarship Fund (8494 Stultz Road, Dallas, Texas 75243) or to Texoma Westend Support, LLC, for the Community Summer Lunch Program (198 Cedar Mills Road, Gordonville, Texas 76245). The family wishes to thank the numerous friends who provided many kindness this past year as well as the doctors, nurses and support staff that fought alongside of Jim, especially Dr. Akbar Rizvi, Dr. Anand Shivnani, Dr. Manmeet Padda, all of the wonderful staff at Medical City McKinney, and the team of amazing nurses at Total Patient Care and Total Hospice and Palliative Care.
