Janice B. Austin ( Nana )'s Obituary
Janice B. Austin (Nana), age 86, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 26, 1938, in Laredo, Texas.
A proud graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio in 1958, Janice earned her teaching degree. While attending college, she met and fell in love with the man she would spend the next 61 years of her life with—Dale Leon Austin. Together, they moved to Garland, where they built a home filled with countless cherished memories.
Jan’s greatest joy came from her family. She leaves behind her three children, James Darrell Austin (Tisa), Gary Scott Austin (Sharon), and Craig Austin (Cynthia), a Nana to her nine grandchildren, each of whom she adored: Derek Austin, Ashley Boland (Brad), Jacob Austin, Jeremy Austin (Lauryn), Jessica Austin (Garrett), Elizabeth Austin, Travis Austin, Taylor Austin, and Tatum Austin. Jan’s legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren, Cooper Boland, Bennett Boland, Corbin Austin, and Brady Austin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jan’s life was defined by an unwavering love for her family, and she made it a point never to forget a birthday, anniversary, or any other special event in the lives of those she loved. Christmas was particularly meaningful to her, and she poured that love into making the holiday season unforgettable, filling her home with warmth, twinkling lights, and a spirit of togetherness. A true lover of travel and the color red, Jan found joy in making those around her feel special and cherished, always ensuring they felt like they were her favorite. Jan’s warmth, generosity, and joy for life will always be remembered by those lucky enough to have known her.
Janice was predeceased by her parents, James William and Margaret Spindle Breeding; her devoted husband, Dale Leon Austin; her brother, James William Breeding; and her daughter, Kristi Ann Gonzales
