Jay Richard McLure Jr.'s Obituary
Passed away on December 16, 2008. He was born in Dallas, TX to Jay Richarcd McLure Sr. and Rose Ledendecker McLure on May 22, 1914. He is preceded in death by his gracious wife, Fon Nielsen McLure. He is survived by 2 daughters Bonnie Merritt and husband Joe and Beth Harris and husband Mark of Cedar Creek Texas and sister Dorothy McLure Cole and husband Richard of Dallas, TX. He leaves 3 grandchildren David Dwyer, Faith Harris and Steven Harris; 5 great grandchildren; 9 nieces and 1 nephew. He was in the first graduating class of Woodrow Wilson High School of Dallas and attended Rice University and graduated from Houston Business College with a BS Degree. He served in the Army Air Corp in WWII. He had an illustrious 40 year career with Humble Oil / Exxon Mobil and retired in 1978. He and Fon had a goal of seeing all 50 states and all 7 continents. He saw all 50 states and missed only 1 continent Antarctica. He was active with volunteer work at the First United Methodist Church of Dallas, Exxon Exes, the Exchange Club of Dallas and AARP. Photography was his passion. He always had a camera with him and relished taking pictures of his daughters and their cousins standing in a line according to their age. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church of Dallas or the charity of your choice. Family will be available for visitation on Friday from 6-8PM at Restland. Funeral will be Saturday, at 12:30PM at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
