Jean Ann Ziegler's Obituary
Jean Ann Ziegler, 87, born on January 2, 1927 in Evanston, IL and passed away on October 21, 2014 in McKinney, TX. She was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother who thought of family first. Friends and acquaintances alike knew immediately of her kindness and sweet nature and enjoyed her company immensely. Jean grew up in Evanston graduating from high school and then on to earn her college degree at Illinois Wesleyan University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She worked devotedly for over 42 years at Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, IL serving many RI presidents as their assistant and continued to move up the ranks in the staff. Jean travelled the world extensively with Rotary for their conventions – Europe, Australia, Japan among the locations. After retirement in 1996 she continued her travels with friends on cruises, bus tours and family trips to Disney World and wherever the granddaughters lived. Family was her love and travel was her passion. Upon her move to Texas in 1996, she became an active member of the Plano Senior Citizen center and spent most days there playing cards, dominos, Bingo or whatever activity was on the schedule. In addition, she made dear friends in her Sunday School class at Custer Road United Methodist Church. Jean battled throat cancer for 6 years but continued to participate in all her activities even after surgery left her without a voice in early 2012. She loved to be with people and rarely turned down an invitation to go anywhere. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Cecelia Daniel. She is survived by daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Richard Karch; granddaughters: Brooke and husband Dan Mudd; Janelle and husband Will Huffman; and Meagan and husband Cody Sutton; and great-grandchildren: Michael and Peyton Mudd; Cooper and Colby Huffman; and Sawyer Sutton all of whom she loved dearly. “Gigi” will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we were reminded by a friend that “she is talking now.” The memorial service for Jean Ziegler will be Monday, October 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Custer Road United Methodist Church with a reception to follow after the services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Custer Road UMC or a cancer research organization.
