Jerry William Boggess' Obituary
Jerry was born in Dallas, TX to Billie G. Traxler Boggess and Henry D. Boggess, Jr. He attended Dallas schools and graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in May 1959. After graduation he was left with a difficult decision: The University of Texas or Texas A&M. For Jerry, this was a no-brainer; he chose UT because, at the time, A&M did not allow girls to attend. He went on to attend The University of Texas and received a BBA degree in accounting. He also got his CPA Certificate.
Upon graduation he went to work for Braniff Airways as an auditor, the Division Controller and Controller-Military Operations. White at Braniff he met and married the love of his life, Laurie Boggess. The marriage lasted 55+ years. He then went to work for HCB Contractors (BECK) as their Assistant Treasurer and was promoted to Treasurer until his retirement in 2007.
Jerry was a founding member of the Dallas Cash Management Associated (now NCCMA). While he was a member he served on the National Labor Relations Board. Jerry was Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 1191 in Richardson. He coached an under-8 boys' soccer team as well as played soccer on a local Dallas team.
Jerry and Laurie travelled the world with their trusty tandem. Riding in The Hotter 'N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls, TX, many USA and European tandem Rallies, and his final ride was a Tour de France sanctioned race in Papeete, Tahiti. He also enjoyed cruising especially to places the tandem didn't go.
If you knew Jerry, then you know that he never met a stranger. He had a true gift of conversation. The boys used to joke that they were born with 3 ears and that he talked one of them off. They will truly miss those conversations. He taught them the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the power of a kind heart.
Survivors include his spouse, Laurie Boggess, Sons: Jason Boggess, Mark (Kristi) Boggess, Sister: Sue (Skip) Harrison, Granddaughters: Lauren Kuhny, Jamie & Haley Boggess, Brother-in-Law: Bill Thorogood.
