Jerry Monroe Hooks' Obituary
Jerry Monroe Hooks, age 75, of Garland, Texas, left this Earth to be with our Lord and Savior at home in Garland on October 26, 2014. He was born on February 19, 1939, to Walter and Mable Hooks in Foreman, Arkansas. He served in the United States Air Force in the late ’50s. Although he worked for numerous employers through his life, his last and favorite was for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in the Engineering Department from 1993 to his retirement in 2005. . Jerry was a faithful member of New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church since 1973. He was active as a youth sponsor, Keenager sponsor and Sunday School Superintendent. He was ordained as a Deacon in the early ’70s at Mesquite Missionary Baptist Church and continued to serve as a deacon at New Liberty from 1973 ’til he was called home. Jerry loved boating, fishing and hunting. He loved to cook and was an avid reader and loved college football – GO FLORIDA STATE! – and he loved his cameras. He was survived by his spouse of 53 years, Nona Meek Hooks of Garland and his only daughter, Jody Hooks of Garland. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Wayne Hooks and his wife, Gerry Ann Hooks of Carrollton and sister, Susie Elizabeth Wright of Edmond, Oklahoma plus numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mable Hooks of Hooks, Texas, and older brother, Sam Hooks of Sherman, Texas, and sister, Chubba Hooks Robinson of Plano, Texas. The visitation for Jerry Hooks will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Jerry Hooks will be at 2:00 PM on October 29, 2014 at new Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, 333 W. Centerville Road, Garland, Texas 75041. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238.
