Jettie passed away peacefully while asleep on March 7, 2017. Born on September 25, 1934, she was one of nine children born to William and Winnie Sams in Tell, Texas. She is survived by a sister, Jean Sams, of Meeker, Oklahoma; a brother, Russell Sams, of Youngstown, Arizona and her long time close friend and caregiver, Mary Ann Thomas. Jettie did her undergraduate work at Wayland Baptist College where she played basketball for the famous “Flying Queens”. After receiving her Masters degree from Baylor University, where she was a graduate assistant, she moved to Dallas where she was a teacher and drill tem sponsor at Hillcrest High School. She retired from Skyline High School where she was a teacher/coach. Part of Jettie’s career also included serving as a summer Camp Director for the Girl Scouts of America. She received her greatest inspiration from her friend, Judy Jeffress. Jettie loved the Dallas Cowboys and Mexican food. Her fondest memories were the times spent on the golf course with her friend Maxine Cammack. No flowers please.
