Jill Carriker's Obituary
JILL CARRIKER, of Dallas, TX, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2025. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, teacher, colleague and friend to all that knew and loved her.
Born in Sulphur Springs, TX on April 1, 1944 to Dr. Jack F. Gibson, Sr and Maxine Gibson, Jill graduated in 3 years from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX and eventually earned her masters degree from the University of North Texas. She passed on her dream of becoming a flight attendant to follow her family’s footsteps into education. She was a teacher and math specialist in the Richardson ISD for 47 years with most of that time being spent teaching 6th grade at Greenwood Hills Elementary and ultimately finishing at Skyview Elementary.
As an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks, Jill seldom missed a game. Her infectious spirit and personality filled every room that she entered and will be dearly missed.
Jill is survived by her daughter, Carri Powell, of Fate, TX, son Adam Carriker of Dallas, granddaughter Taylor Powell of Rowlett, and grandson Jake Powell of Chicago, IL.
She was preceded in death by Ben R. Carriker, her husband of 51 years, son-in-law James R. Powell, brother Jack F. Gibson Jr, and parents Jack Sr. and Maxine.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at First United Methodist Church Richardson on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the main sanctuary.
