Jimmie Ray Edmonson's Obituary
Dr. Jimmie Ray Edmonson passed away on June 18, 2024 at the age of 79.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sophie T. Edmonson; father, James; and his only grandson, Jared Edmonson. He is survived by his wife, Mary Edmonson; his children, Dawn Keehn, Erik Edmonson, and Shannon Edmonson; sister, Sherrie Locke; grandchildren, Erica Edmonson, Jordan Nicole Watson, and Lola-Sofia Keehn; stepchildren, John Haslett and Mary Cevallos; and great-grandson Jaxon.
He was an accomplished musician, playing saxophone, percussion and vocals for several bands throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s. He had a diverse love of music that he passed to children.
He had over 30 years of sobriety and spent many years earning multiple certifications in mental
wellness. He enjoyed helping others on their sobriety journey. He earned his Phd in sociology in 1999, and this was his proudest academic accomplishment.
He was a passionate advocate for the Native American community and served on the board of directors for the Inter-Tribal Center of North Texas for many years. This is where he helped implement policy and lobbied for legislation to improve the quality of life for the indigenous community. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He was LOVED.
He will be missed.
