Lit a candle in memory of Joan Elizabeth Green
Joan was special to me and to my family and I have many treasured memories. In fact, my memories and my ?Joan? stories could fill a book. There are so many that putting together ?a few words? is difficult. Joan and I met at time in both of our lives where we needed each other ? I needed her a lot more than she needed me. I had found myself in a job that I was unqualified to perform. Joan showed up in answer to an ad in the paper and the rest is history. We worked together for 10 years in that initial situation and when I decided to open my own insurance agency, Joan agreed to help me. We spent another 27 years working together. In fact, the last day she came into the office was Wednesday, May 13. She was on a 3 day shift now, but always filled in when her assistant was on vacation or out for any reason. Joan was key to our agency family in so many ways. We went to her with coverage questions, claims questions, and I went to her with just life questions. She always had it together no matter what the situation. I talked to her about anything and everything. There was never judgment, never arrogance. There was always just a listening ear, take-it-or-leave-it advice based on her experience, and acceptance of me and my foibles, my weaknesses. She made me stronger because she was always in my corner. I remember when my late husband crossed over. Joan was not obtrusive or let-me-take-over; she was just there. The day before the memorial, she came to my house at 9 a.m. It had been a long week and I was having a rare time alone; it was just Joan and I. We didn?t really talk, we just sat and drank coffee and Joan?s presence reminded me of all the good things in life. That?s who Joan was to me ? a reminder of all the good things in life: love, laughter, family, friends, loyalty, honesty, truth, tolerance, and a never-give-up attitude. Joan always faced life unafraid of tomorrow and I admired her courage every day, especially so when she face cancer ?twice-and beat it. My life has been made better because I knew Joan. I loved her and I will miss her. Ann Mullen-Martin

To Joan's family, I am so sorry you are giving up such a jewel in this world. She was as beautiful inside as she was outside. She shared her love wherever she went. All of us will miss her, but we too have beautiful memories. Nita Hickman ( Pilot sister)
