Joan Elizabeth Green's Obituary
Joan Elizabeth Green was born October 18, 1931 in Slaton, Texas and passed away May 15, 2015 in Dallas, Texas. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian Green; brothers, George Green, Earl Green, Bill Green, and Ken Green. Joan is survived by her only child, Charity Robin Green Heisig, and son-in-law, Randy Heisig; granddaughter, Sara Stewart and her husband, Rustin Stewart; granddaughter, Abby Heisig and her fiance’, Ryan Doerre; sisters, Betty Orr, Venita Womack, and Mary Ruth Gossett; and countless nieces and nephews. Joan was a longtime member of Ferguson Road Baptist Church. She was extremely proud of her Native American heritage as member of the Citizen Potawatomie Tribe of Shawnee, Oklahoma. She belonged to many professional organizations including LIAT, HIADA, TIADA, and PIA. Her favorite service club was Pilot International where she proudly served as past president. Joan was a graduate of Mary Hardin Baylor University in Belton, Texas. After college she taught 2nd grade in Slaton before moving to Dallas where she eventually began a long career in the insurance business. She started at Liberty Mutual but her happiest years were at Mullen Insurance Agency where she was still working days before her sudden passing. Joan was also quite an artist with endless talent and creative abilities, but she was especially known for her positive attitude and infectious smile. Joan never had a bad day, and she made sure no one else did either! She battled breast cancer like a champ without ever complaining. She loved people, loved life, loved her Lord, loved her friends, and loved her family. She will be missed more than we can imagine, but as believers we know that we will see her again. Our mom and Nana left us a legacy that we will carry proudly, and we will strive daily to be as good as what she saw in each and every one of us. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 21, 2015 at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Soup Mobile Inc., 3017 Commerce St., Dallas, Texas 75226 because of her compassion and concern for the less fortunate; SPCA, 2400 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, Texas 75212 because of her love of God’s sweet creatures; and Kidds Kids at www.kiddskids.com/donate because she always tried to help those in need, or the charity of your choice. Joan’s favorite bible verse: And now abideth faith, hope, and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. I Corinthians 13:13. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243
