Joe Jansen's Obituary
Joe Jansen, of Dallas, TX, passed away on 6/2/2025 in Dallas, Texas. Joe will be remembered by his friends and colleagues as a man of honesty and integrity. He will also be remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather, and mentor to all.
He was born on 6/1/1940 in Longview, Texas to Jay Dee and Julia Edith Jansen. Joe remained in Longview, Texas until he graduated Longview High School in 1958. Not knowing exactly what he wanted to do he attended Kilgore Jr. College for two years where he received an associate degree. Still not knowing exactly what he wanted to do, he attended East Texas State where he received a BBA in accounting. On August 30, 1962, he was married to Mary Jane Crawford while attaining his Masters degree in Accounting. In 1964, they moved to Dallas, Texas where Joe took a job with State Farm Insurance Company. They saved their money and in six months, they purchased a small liquor store on Greenville Ave called Goo Goo Liquor. He added a “dy” to the end and Goody Goody Liquor was born. Upon his death, the company had grown to 25 locations plus a corporate office and central warehouse. Joe enjoyed building things whether it was his company, homes, or even the buildings at his ranch in East Texas.
He was a true entrepreneur owning many businesses including his retail business, an apartment complex, a custom home building company, a night club, and a computer software and hardware company selling point of sale systems and peripherals. He also loved anything with wheels, a combustion engine, and a lot of horsepower. He owned Ducati motorcycles, dirt bikes, muscle cars, Corvettes, Ferraris, and M Spec BMWs to name just a few. He also loved to travel and eat at all kinds of restaurants from the finest Michelin rated to his local BBQ joint. He was a pillar to many of his friends and all of his family. Joe Jansen loved his life and loved to live it to the fullest.
Joe is survived by his son, Scott Jansen and his wife, Renee, two grandsons, David and Mark Jansen, his best friend and loving companion, Julie Kilfoyle, daughter in-law, Nobue Jansen and her husband and daughter, Tony and Mimi Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Jansen, his mother and father, Jay Dee and Julia Edith Jansen, and wife of almost 51 years, Mary Jane Jansen.
The visitation will be held from 4 – 7 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday 6/11/2025 at Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas in the Restland Memorial Chapel.
