Joe Torres' Obituary
Our beloved Joe Torres, 45, passed away peacefully at his home in Richardson, TX on January 4th, 2016, surrounded by his husband, Cory Morrison, Mother-in-Law, Gaye Morrison and his yellow lab, Tucker. Born November 8, 1970 in Lamesa, TX to parents Pedro and Juana Reyna, (deceased). Joe was a truly special man, loved by all, whom were privileged to have shared his life. He was a devoted, loving and caring individual, whose calling in life was the care and advocacy of children. He established a career with Bright Horizons Family Solutions here in Dallas, where he became director and was highly regarded and respected for his work with the children and their families. Previously he worked with the YMCA, in their After School and Summer Camp Programs, in Austin, TX. During his time with the YMCA, he established many life-long friendships, that he cherished until his end. Joe attended Southwest Texas State University, where he trained and studied in the field of Early Childhood Development. Joe was an avid fan of the University of Texas Football Team, loved watching the UT Women’s Volleyball Team and UT Basketball Teams. He love playing volleyball and played for the DIVA league in Dallas for many years. Joe is survived by his loving husband, Cory Morrison and their beloved dog Tucker, who adored and guarded Joe until the end. Between Joe and Cory, they have a large extended family and many wonderful friends that love and nurture them and will miss Joe so very much. Joe touched many lives during his brief time on earth. His teaching spirit will continue by his donation to the research of Cruetzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Joe will be remembered as the kind, generous and loving soul he was in life. Joe is survived by his extended family: (sisters): Maria Torrez, Victoria Rogers and husband, David Rogers, (cousins): Cynthia Mendez, Michelle Rodriguez, Fernando Mendez, John Mendez, Patricia Olszewski, and Ryan Rogers, along with their spouses and children. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Bill and Gaye Morrison, brothers-in-law, Matthew and Kelly Morrison and numerous other family members. A Celebration Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 16th at 2:30PM, at Restland Funeral Home, in the Memorial Chapel, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX, 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, (http://BH.kintera.org/JoeTorres ) , the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas, (801 Avenue H East Suite 101 Arlington, TX 76011), or a charity of your choice, are appreciated.
