John Scevar Delaney III's Obituary
John Scevar Delaney, III, 86, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from complications of a stroke. A native Texan, he was born in San Angelo, Texas on February 5, 1928 to Fannie Mae and John Scevar, II. After service in the army during WWII, he returned to graduate from the University of Texas, Austin with a degree Mathematics. While in Austin, he met his true love “Nell” and was married for 59 years. John was an engineer by trade. He worked for General Dynamics, Collins Radio, Rockwell International and NEC. He had a front row seat during the Computer Age. He worked on Binary computers, vacuum tube computes and every iteration personal computer. Later, he switched his focus to telecommunications and got heavily involved in switches, routers and phones. After he retired in 1996, he was still busy on his home PC and made sure he had the latest and most current tech gadgets that were on the market. Historian, Scholar, Scientist, Christian and Traveler are just a few words that would describe John. He was obsessed with the need to know the what, where, who, why and how’s. From researching his or Nell’s family trees, to helping with his daughter’s math and science homework, to trying to understand the deep implications of Christ’s journey and trials or visiting unique countries that offered a new adventure, this was John. He was known for his quick wit, big heart, tech gadgets, and love of travel and enjoyed watching UT and Cowboy football games. He is predeceased by his brother Earl and wife, Lois, his sisters Mozelle Ethridge and Nan Torgersen and wife, Virginia “Nell” Delaney. He is survived by his daughters Stacy Delaney and Pam Friedrich, his grandson, Eric Friedrich, granddaughter and husband, Erin Friedrich Martin and Brian Martin, great grandson, Ryan Martin and numerous family and friends. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a loyal friend. He will leave a big hole in our hearts and will be truly missed by all that knew him. The visitation for John Scevar will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for John will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salvation Army Collin County.
