John Henry Hodgins' Obituary
John Henry Hodgins, 94, of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 1, 2018. He was born on January 13, 1924 to William and Suzanna May Hodgins in Shinrone, County Offlay, Ireland. John lived his youth in Shirone, Ireland, learned to play accordion, loved time with his family and friends and began working at Armitage and Sons learning the business and purchasing trade. With the encouragement and support of his Uncle Har Hodgins, John immigrated to the United States of America in November 1949 with a Bible in his hand given to him by the local Methodist Minister and excitement in his heart. He initially lived in Connecticut, married and lived in Westfield, Massachusetts. He was blessed with two children, Kathy Hodgins and David Hodgins. In 1963, he moved with his family to Dallas Texas and soon became the Purchasing Director of a hat company in Garland, Texas now known as Resistol Hats. He retired from Resistol at the age of 63 and started his own business, Hodgins Packaging, which he maintained until the ripe young age of 89 years. His love of music resulted in the creation of a local Irish band called the Irish Rogues—a music group that he loved and enjoyed for some thirty (30) years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rhona Hodgins, brother Aubrey Hodgins, and brother Bob Hodgins. John is survived by his sister Lou Hodgins, daughter Kathy and her husband Mark Campbell, and grandchildren Conor and Caitlin Blanck and by his son, David Hodgins and wife Dina, and grandchildren John Michael, Katherine, David Jr., and Rebekah Hodgins. During his 94 years on this earth, John Hodgins lived a very fulfilled life full of friends, family, music, love and laughter. He loved his family deeply and was immensely proud of his daughter, his son and all his grandchildren. John Hodgins was a most generous man and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He was kind and friendly and never met a stranger. He always remembered fondly his Irish homeland and many Irish relatives and was honored to be a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. He will be missed, but never forgotten. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243 (972) 238-7111. A funeral service to Celebrate John’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243 with a burial service to follow. A reception and grand Irish wake will be held in the Hydrangea room at the funeral home after the burial service. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
