John William Moorehead's Obituary
It is with great sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of John William Moorehead, who departed this life on April 21, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on September 21, 1967, in Garland, Texas, John was the beloved son of Jackie and Royce Moorehead.
John lived a life marked by dedication and service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force where he distinguished himself through his unwavering commitment, sharp skill, and natural leadership. His contributions left a lasting impact on his unit and the broader mission of the Air Force.
John forged a successful career in Information Technology as a Network Engineer. He was highly regarded for his professionalism, sharp intellect, and tireless work ethic. A lifelong learner, he earned a master’s degree in Computer and Information Systems Security/Information Assurance and was pursuing a PhD before taking a step back to focus on cloud certifications and the CISSP (Certified Informations Systems Security Professional) exam, which he proudly passed in September of 2024.
John had a sharp wit and a heart of gold. He loved good coffee, music, traveling, and late night infomercials that he could quote on cue. He was an avid reader, devoted Snoopy collector, and once almost poisoned his entire family by accidentally using oven cleaner instead of cooking spray in a batch of brownies. He frequently mixed up movie genres, leading to more than one traumatizing (yet now hilarious) family movie night. His greatest love seemed to be of the absolute lowest budget movies, particular in the horror and spoof genres. His kids have not always appreciated this. His sweet tooth was legendary—dessert first, and sometimes only. But what truly stood out was his gift for connection. He had a way of making people feel seen and valued, and even complete strangers were drawn in by his warmth, kindness, and sense of humor.
Above all, John was a beautiful soul—kind, generous, and deeply empathetic. His legacy is one of love, laughter, integrity, and service, and he leaves behind a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine; his six children, Lisa, Joshua, Taylor, Zachary, Callie, and Cole; and their spouses, Nick, Erin, and Sawyer. He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren: Atticus, Hawthorne, Sirius, Gatsby, Gunner, Landon, Westyn, and Mavyrk. As well as many others, including extended family and countless friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 8th at Restland Funeral Home’s Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Dallas National Cemetery.
